The Saxons are Germanic people native to North Germany and the coasts of Gaul (France) and Britain.
Saxon pirates were common around the time of the late Roman Empire, in the North Sea.  The Saxons spoke a language which is now called Old German.  The Saxons were pagans and worshipped the exact same gods as the Norse, but with different names.  Odin was called Woden, Freya was called Frige, Thor was Thunor, Tyr (God of War) was Tiw, and Aegir (god of the sea) was Wade.
